Vertebrate CTF18 and DDX11 essential function in cohesion is bypassed by preventing WAPL-mediated cohesin release

In this study, Kawasumi et al. investigated the establishment of sister chromatid cohesion in vertebrate cells. Using genetically amenable chicken DT40 B-cell lines to establish conditional knockout and point mutations in cohesin-related genes and regulators, the authors report an unknown joint essential role for vertebrate CTF18 and DDX11 in sister chromatid cohesion and cellular proliferation.
