A multiprocessor bus system with cyclic data exchange for the field of control and signal processing

Abstract This paper presents a bus system with a cyclic data transfer method designed to meet the typical demands of control and signal processing applications. Often used to emulate parallel hardware or an analog system, these real time applications mainly need cyclic processing of input and output data. Therefore a fast bus communication of several processors for this field of applications can be based efficiently on a cyclic transmission protocol. Contrary to multiprocessor busses as normally used, the presented bus system with cyclic data exchange is a cost-effective way to achieve interprocessor communication with high data rates. However, the bus operations are mainly depending on the cyclic real time operations of the software which have to be guaranteed by a local operation system and the application software.
