Integer-to-integer shape adaptive wavelet transform for region of interest image coding

In this paper, we are proposing an integer-to-integer shape adaptive discrete wavelet transform (ISA-DWT) for the region of interest (ROI) coding. ISA-DWT is capable of coding any number of arbitrary shape regions using an integer-to-integer wavelet transform using the lifting scheme. ISA-DWT maintains similar spatial correlation to the actual wavelet transform that allows SPIHT coding. Also, the number of the coefficients in the transform domain using ISA-DWT is equal to the number of pixels contained in the region. The results show that the 5/3 transform has more lossless compression in bit per pixel than other filters.
