FUTURE DIRECTIONS — A Summary of the Final Discussions

The last morning of the NATO Advanced Study Institute on Supercritical Fluids was devoted to the definition of the research of the future: what theoretical and experimental problems need to be solved in order to facilitate the understanding of the supercritical medium in the applications to be anticipated. The discussion was divided into three parts: theory, coordinated by J. M. H. Levelt Sengers; experiment, coordinated by G. M. Schneider; and applications, coordinated by E. Kiran. Each of the parts was recorded by a scribe: the theory part by J. P. O’Connell; the experimental part by S. M. Howdle; and the applications by E. Kiran. The narrative in this section is composed from the notes of the scribes. In each of the parts, some participants made brief presentations. Their names are listed in the narrative.
