Research on Cattle Iris Localization Algorithm and Its Application in Meat Food Tracking and Traceability System

In order to distinguish animal individuals and improve the meat food safety, the theory of large animal iris recognition was applied to meat food supply chain management. The iris-recognition-based meat food tracking and traceability system was established in this paper, which ensures the safety of meat food from farm to table.A rapid iris localization approach about cattle as an example was presented based on the feature of non-concentric elliptic and image affine transformation invariant theory.Inner boundary was fitted by a coarse to fine strategy using grayscale average method and the three-point-circle theory.Outer boundary was fitted by a proposed pixel-wise scanning layered circles algorithm.Experimental results indicate that this novel approach can obviously reduce the loss of iris information, and improve the calculation of related parameters.
