Vibration frequency peak detection and sorting technique for passenger vehicles

This paper shows an experimental study about a mechanical vibration analysis technique that can be useful for monitoring mobile rotary systems in order to find a way to characterize critical parts of the system, and by this mean to create the possibility to assure its proper function. A passenger car has been used to develop a test that consisted of using a sensor to acquire the vibrations on an specific point of the car followed by the extraction of the most significant frequency harmonics in terms of amplitude, then we looked up for the relationship between the harmonics and the mechanical elements of the vehicle based on the fact that each harmonic represents a source of vibration. Using a low complexity acquisition system and a virtual instrument, the main purpose of this technique is to achieve a simple development and potentiality to assure vehicle reliability.
