Test methods for corrosion inhibitors: report prepared for the European Federation of Corrosion Working Party on Inhibitors

AbstractTest methods for corrosion inhibitors are considered under four headings. The background to the subject is first discussed, and a more detailed discussion of test parameters is presented. This includes matters relating to the choice and preparation of test specimens, test media, and equipmen. A section on evaluation techniques describes the various methods available for assessing inhibition: visual observations, mass loss measurements, electrochemical procedures, etc. The final section is concerned with published test methods, which are divided into recognized standard procedures and other techniques. Methods are given for acid conditions, cooling waters, non-aqueous fluids, two phase oil–water systems, and volatile corrosion inhibitors.
