Vibrotactile instrumentation designed to generate pulses for the study of temporal resolution of the lingual sensory modality

An instrumentation package has been designed to obtain vibrotactile fusion thresholds from the lingual cutaneous sensory modality. This instrumentation can be employed to acquire fusion thresholds through the use of a two‐pulse stimulus with varying interpulse onset times. The pulse signal, the generating and monitoring system, and the apparatus for tongue positioning is described. The acquisition of lingual fusion thresholds provides information concerning central nervous system processing of tactile sensory information necessary for speech production.
