Developing a power transformer low energy degradation assessment triangle

One of the key aspects of transformer incipient faults is that they usually start as a low energy abnormality before developing into a visible fault condition. It is critical to establish monitoring to pick up these changes during apparently normal conditions. Dissolved gasses analysis can be an effective tool in achieving early warning if the key gasses associated with low energy conditions - hydrogen, methane and carbon monoxide - are considered. These parameters are combined into a triangular representation in a method for interpreting transformer health status and identifying low energy changes within the transformer.
