Temperature increase due to Specific Absorption Rate enhancement around metallic stent implants

A numerical model has been implemented to determine the effects of the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) increase around metallic stent implants on the temperature The power source used is an 835 MHz dipole antenna A sphere-simulating human head is considered together with three different types of metallic carotid stent implants placed inside and parallel to the emitting antenna The averaged SAR over 1g of tissue exceeds the standard limiting value in all cases, but the temperature increase never exceeds 1°C, a value considered safe by the present regulations. We conclude that the use of mobile phones by patients who underwent a carotid stent procedure is safe
