experimental evaluation of poultry mist-fog systems

ABSTRACT AN experimental study was conducted to determine the evaporative efficiency of conventional low pres-sure misting systems commonly employed in poultry housing facilities in the Southeast. Variables considered to effect efficiency for a fixed nozzle pressure were air and water flow rates, and initial air humidity ratios. A predictive relationship is developed from the experiment-al data. In general, evaporative efficiencies are 20 to 25 percent for low pressure misters, but can be increased to approximately 37 percent by increasing water line pres-sure to 1380 k Pa (200 psig). Stirring fans did not improve the evaporative efficiency of the low pressure misters.
