Range Doppler algorithm for ground based FMCW X-band synthetic aperture radar

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR), well known as high resolution radar plays a vital role in military as well as civilian applications. Frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) technology along with SAR systems leads to compact, cost-effective and lightweight imaging sensors with fine resolution. The paper presents results obtained with X-band ground based SAR. We perform an experiment where synthetic aperture is formed by moving the antenna assembly along 8m rail placed at an elevated platform on rooftop of a building and 1m corner reflectors are placed on the ground. The range compressed data is convolved with its delayed time reversed template and compression in azimuth domain is performed. Range and azimuth resolution measurements along with SAR image obtained are presented.
