On the Interpretation of the Observed Confidence In Certain Reliability Assessments

In exploratory reliability assessment, engineers often determine the confidence γ with which they can say that a product is at least 1ooβ% reliable. It is observed that, in fact, γ is a statistic rather than a probability. The distribution of γ is given in the case of sampling from a parent normal population.
