Social learning SoftThermostat for commercial buildings

We demonstrate a social learning softThermostat for commercial building energy savings and comfort enhancement. This softThermostat, named SOLO, is a software application hosted on our collaborative energy and comfort control (CECC) platform, which engages occupants in energy policy making by arbitrating conflictive requirements among occupants and facilitates communication among the stake holders in commercial buildings. Facility managers can allocate every occupant one personal SOLO, which can be accessed via web browsers on desktop or mobile devices. Every time an occupant adjusts the temperature preference or changes the occupancy status, SOLO learns from the inputs and updates the user profile. With detailed information on occupants' schedule and preferences profile, significant energy saving can be achieved without sacrifice on comfort. The user interface of SOLO is built on modern web technologies, such as HTML5 and Javascript, with back end learning algorithm and temperature arbitration algorithm implemented in Python.
