Energy efficient processes of electric motor manufacturing

Energy efficiency is one of the buzzwords in the sector of electric drives. However, not only the design or the construction but also the energy efficient production of electric motors are emerging challenges. For this reason, the E Drive-Center at the Institute for Factory Automation and Production Systems (FAPS) from Friedrich-Alex ander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) is researching on processes within the whole production chain. This paper examines methods and strategies for the design and the evolution of energy-efficient processes. In the stator manufacturing the joining- and the isolation process have been identified as key-energy processes, based on a comparison of theoretically required process energy and the measured consumption. In the rotor production, there are energy saving potentials by optimizing the magnetization strategy.
