Distributed videocoding(DVC)isoneofthefastest growing coding techniques inthecurrent signal processing world. Ithasitsoutstanding lowcomplex encoder whichis essential forsomeapplications intheconsumer market. Driven bytheabovemotive, inthis paperwepropose a novel side information refinement technique forWyner-Ziv video frames inDVC.Whenabitplane isdecoded, itis usedtoreplace thecorresponding bitplaneintheside information and usedformotionestimation and compensation toupdatethesideinformation. Thenthe information forthenextbitplaneisextracted fromthe updated side information andissent totheturbo decoder as inaconventional DVC decoder. Thisprocess isrepeated until allbitplanes areextracted. Thistechnique canbe employed withalmost allthesideinformation generation techniques fromsimplest conventional pixel interpolation to advancedtechniques suchas bi-directional motion estimation andspatial motionsmoothing (BiMESS)[8]. Simulation results showthat over1.4dB PSNRgaincanbe obtained withtheproposed algorithm overtheBiMESS smoothing algorithm atthesamebit rate.
