Use of an Interactive Computer-based Instruction Package to Teach Water Quality Modelling

This paper explores an innovative teaching module to introduce inexperienced final year engineering students to water quality modelling as part of a core subject. The water quality teaching module consisted of an interactive computer-based instruction (CBI) package in assisting students to set up and run a commercially available water quality computer model (WQMAP) for a hypothetical raw sewage spill. The CBI package comprised of numerous HTML pages with links to on-screen recorded Lotus ScreenCam movie clips. A formal class survey was undertaken which showed the teaching module was highly beneficial.
