Hydrostatic Pressure Testing of Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe with Broken Wires

The conclusions derived from the hydrostatic pressure tests of prestressed concrete cylinder pipe with broken wires include the following: two dominant failure modes exist for PCCP with broken wires: a block arching failure mode and a punching shear failure; the actual strength of the PCCP with broken wires is much higher than the yield strength of the steel cylinder; the results of these tests can be used to calibrate the analytical formulas or calculation procedures derived for computing the pressures that cause structural cracking and ultimate strength in different failure modes; and additional testing on the strength of PCCP with broken wires resulting from corrosion to verify further analysis is recommended.
