Efficient Decentralized Key Management Approach for Vehicular Ad Hoc Network

Vehicular Ad hoc networks (VANETs) belong to the class of mobile ad hoc network (MANET) applications in which mobile nodes are vehicles. These networks find large applications like traffic monitoring, accident prediction and many more. To solve the big problem of increasing number of accidents on the roads. The challenges in the security of VANET are its high mobility and highly dynamic topology, which work under shared wireless medium. Vehicles deliver safety and non-safety messages to other vehicles through either base station or fixed roadside unit as VANET is a combination of both ad hoc and infrastructure network. In such an environment, malicious nodes can easily steal or misuse data transmitted among vehicles. Since the evolution of VANET several key management and distribution algorithms have been planned. During this analysis, a memory economical key management and distribution theme for VANET have been planned. The planned theme is compared with other decentralized and centralized approaches and it is observed experimentally that the proposed approach achieves better performance.
