Emission cross sections of CO+ by electron impact

Cross sections for the production of the 'comet tail' (A 2 Pi to X2 Sigma +) and first negative (B2 Sigma + to X2 Sigma +) and first negative (B2 Sigma + to X2 Sigma +) systems of CO+ by electron excitation of CO have been measured. The electron energy ranged from the threshold to 500 eV. To obtain absolute values, comparison with the excitation cross section of the helium 51S level has been used. The results for the (3,0) band of the 'comet tail' system and for the (0,0) band of the first negative system are (1.1+or-0.2)*1017 and (1.3+or-0.3)*10-17 cm2 respectively. These values correspond to 100 ev electron energy. Cross section values for 26 bands of the 'comet tail' system and 19 bands of the first negative system are given.
