Aerodynamic and aerothermal instrumentation - Measurement uncertainty in the NSWC Hypervelocity Wind Tunnel No. 9

Since the publication of AIAA Standard S-071, "Assessment of Wind Tunnel Data Uncertainty", there has been much activity throughout the ground testing community to assess experimental uncertainty for each wind tunnel facility. This paper documents an implementation of that standard at the NSWC Hypervelocity Wind Tunnel 9 for aerodynamic and aerothermal instrumentation. The paper begins with a general description of the experimental uncertainty methodology, followed by specific examples applied to static stability and drag, pressure, and heat transfer testing. The experimental measurement uncertainty techniques discussed in this paper have application to other hypersonic wind tunnels.
