In today’s highly competitive environment, cost effectiveness is the most important factor governing the success of a business developing some technical products. It is especially so when it comes to the field of factory automatin & control because of its huge economic implication. The eventual verification and validation of any factory automation software system would usually require an actual application of the system to the objective factory. Surely, this approach is very expensive and risky from both the economic and temporal perspectives. Modern solution for this intrinsic issue of factory automation system development is the software-in-the-loop(SILS) approach which has become a common practice thanks to the immense computational power of contemporary computers. Usually, factory automation revolves around networks of PLC’s. Accurate assessment of the performance of a target automation system naturally requires high-resolution data acquisition from the constituent control elements. A high performance PLC data acquisition system and its design philosophy are presented here.
