Teaching anatomy through radiology. A new challenge requiring new techniques.

The Systems Approach adopted by the University of Southern California School of Medicine involves the integration of a number of disciplines. For the radiologist this creates the challenge of teaching first-year medical students anatomy from radiographs. Units of material are presented in three parts. an anatomical lecture using diagrams, a laboratory session using prosected material, and a presentation of the material on slides of radiographs. Normal anatomy is taught by showing it in conjunction with pathological material. The student response to this approach has been enthusiastic.
