Local buckling of square thin-walled Aluminium extrusions

An experimental investigation has been carried out to study the local buckling behaviour of square thin-walled aluminium extrusions in alloy AA6060. The primary variables have been the temper and wall thickness of the extrusions. Furthermore, the classical Stowell theory for plates has been modified to take postbuckling strength into account. Good correlation between theory and the present test results and results from the literature has been found.
