Case History: Automation of an Existing Cogeneration Facility — Metamorphosis of an Existing Central Utility Plant Facility

The scope was straight forward; design and install a complete SCADA system to automate as much as reasonably possible the utility plant consisting of: • One gas turbine cogeneration unit with duct firing, • Three reciprocating engine generators, • Two utility sources, • Three Absorption chillers, • Four electric chillers, • Two duel fuel boilers, and • 2 cooling towers. Prior to this project, the entire utility plant was operated manually. This included everything from chiller loading to Power Factor control.Copyright © 2002 by ASME
