Two-Way Parabolic Equation Modeling for Radio Propagation Over Irregular Terrain

This paper presents second-order Greene two-way parabolic equation (2WPE) method to model both forward-waves and backward-waves propagation over irregular terrain. This solution is implemented by finite-difference methods (FDM), which will be more effective to deal with the complicated boundaries and allow propagation angles up to about 55°. For complicated boundaries, FDM is able to give better results than Fourier split-step method. It is the first time to adopt Greene FDM 2WPE to model bidirectional radio propagation. The results show that the FDM 2WPE model can provide more accurate prediction results for radio propagation over irregular terrain.
