Analysis on Lane-changing Safety of Vehicle

Using the minimum safety spacing(MSS) as an index of the safe lane-changing of the vehicle, the kinematics of the vehicle involved in lane-changing maneuves was analyzed. The computation of MSS was correlated with the current vehicle velocity, the time searching the critical collision point, the relative velocity and relative acceleration between both vehicles to seek the conditions for vehicle collision avoidance, and the calculation method for MSS at lane-changing process was accomplished and associated simulation and analysis were performed, laying a necessary foundation for further research and development of the autonomous lane-changing and overtaking assistance systems.
