A Basic Approach to e-Learning at a Junior High School

In order to teach the usage of the spreadsheet software "Excel®," we created the teaching material using e-Learning. The main subjects were the third-year students in a junior high school. Which type of lesson do they prefer, a teacher initiative type or e-Learning? According to the questionnaire after the lessons, two thirds of the students preferred e-Learning. While 90% or more of the students showed understanding, there were some differences between the male and female students in their interest and concern. It has been cleared that the students required those who play a role of a tutor, which was naturally performed in cooperative study. Besides, we found that communication of knowledge management and the performance of the computer are very important factors. From the questionnaire, some faults of our teaching materials made clear, and we could see the points of correction.
