WP1 Side Wind Effects: Summary and Conclusions

Within the Work Package 1 of the TRANSAERO project side wind effects on the leading vehicles of trains were investigated. The objective of this task was a deeper understanding of the basic phenomenology, the investigation of the effectiveness of different kinds of wind breaking devices and the development and validation of numerical as well as experimental methods. For these purposes numerical CFD calculations and model scale tests were carried out on benchmark configurations and with different wind shields for the protection of the line. Full scale tests were performed for the comparison and validation of the simulative data.
