A Practical Timing Recovery Method for OFDM Systems

In this paper, we propose a novel timing estimation method for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Conventional timing synchronization method is useful for only their corresponding preamble structures. The proposed method, however, can be applied to any OFDM systems regardless of preamble structure and remarkably increases in the estimation accuracy of more than 5 dB in terms of the mean square error. The proposed method improves the performance just by novel processing at the receiver instead of designing a new preamble structure.
