Design da interação em ambientes virtuais : uma abordagem semiótica

Ambientes virtuais. algumas vezes tambem denominados sistemas de realidade virtual, sao ambientes computacionais que incorporam um certo estilo de interacao Humano-Computador no qual os signos aos quais o ser humano e exposto sao gerados pelo computador de maneira relativa ao "ponto de vista" de um participante individual. Dirigidos inicialmente a aplicacoes cientificas e a simuladores de alto custo, hoje os ambientes virtuais sao amplamente empregados em areas tais como arquitetura, medicina, entretenimento, treinamento, educacao, psicoterapia, visualizacao, modelagem digital de manufatmas, comunicacao e ate mesmo em arte gracas basicamente a confluencia de tres fatores: a queda no custo dos recursos computacionais, o aumento de performance dos processadores e o desenvolvimento de algoritmos eficientes e robustos para computacao grafica e sonora. A pesquisa sobre ambientes virtuais conduzida ate agora tem se fixado na melhoria da performance e da qualidade de resposta dos ambientes virtuais. A preocupacao com o design da interacao do ser humano em ambientes virtuais de forma abrangente e relativamente recente. Tendo como pano de fundo a Semiotica de Peirc, esta tese trata do design da interacao do ser humano em ambientes virtuais propondo o entendimento destes ambientes e do proprio design como signo. Nos objetivamos primariamente o desenvolvimento de um modelo conceitual para interacao em ambientes virtuais. o estabelecimento de principios que governam esta interacao e a criacao de um metodo para design destes ambientes. Secundariamente. nos analisamos o potencial que o modelo conceitual proposto tem para ser aplicado a outras classes de software e como os principios de design propostos podem ser utilizados num quadro de inferencia logica de questoes remetidas a ambientes virtuais. Um prototipo de ambiente virtual que permite a criancas o desenvolvimento e a atuacao em pecas de teatro e desenvolvido para ilustrar os conceitos discutidos e para exemplificar na pratica a aplicacao destes conceitos Abstract
