Cooperative Research on 2-D Soil-Structure Interaction Model with P-SV Plane Wave

The main goal of the proposed research was to study the phenomena accompanying the soil-foundation-structure interaction and based on this study to propose improvements of the existing codes for blasting and building structures resistant to strong ground motion (earthquakes, underground explosions, and blasting). We proposed the research conducted with computer simulations on numerical models of wave propagation in three media (soil, foundation, and structure). We also proposed that at the end of the project, the results of our computational model need to be verified with records from seismographs close to the source of blasting (mines or tunnels). In order to coordinate activities we met twice with our Chinese collaborators. First, members of our team visited Harbin and Beijing, where the principal researchers from Macedonian and Chinese side gave seminar. Then members of Chinese team visited Stip and Ohrid. In meantime a big earthquake struck the province Sichuan in central China. There were about 70.000 casualties from this event. Our Chinese collaborators were engaged completely in this event and they partially ceased their project activities.
