Localization of a magnetic marker for GI motility studies: an in vitro feasibility study

A method for localizing a single magnetic dipole has been implemented in vitro using a magnetic marker. Eight fluxgate magnetometer sensors measure the magnetic field of the marker and the localization algorithm calculates its position and orientation. The results suggest that this localization method can be used for measuring the position and orientation parameters of the marker. The obtained parameters can be reliably used to measure the frequency of motion of the marker. The preliminary results of this study suggest that the method can be used for gastroenterological studies of motility and transit.
