Evaluation of Ozonation By‐products From Two California Surface Waters

(SPW) to the DWP’s LAAFP. Connections between the Jensen plant and LAAFP made it possible for the LAAFP to receive and treat SPW diverted from the Jensen plant prior to treatment. The full-scale experiment was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of ozonation of SPW for controlling the formation of halogenated organic compounds, reducing residual levels of odorcausing compounds, effecting disinfection, and improving flocculation. The formation of ozone by-products was also of interest. A large number of water quality parameters were measured during the experiment. This article includes data on the ozonation by-products observed in the treatment of SPW, both during the two-day full-scale study and in subsequent batch-scale studies. The results are compared with the levels of similar by-products found in the ozonation of Los Angeles Aqueduct Water (LAAW), the usual source of water treated at the LAAFP. Another articlei describes the effect of treatment at the LAAFP on other SPW parameters, including turbidity, total organic car
