An integrated seven port hybrid charger for smart home applications

Multi Input Multi Output (MIMO) converter topologies play vital role in low power applications. In this paper a novel converter topology which interfaces seven ports, i.e. two input power ports (PV array and grid), one bidirectional port (battery) and four isolated parallel load ports is proposed. The hybrid charger is derived from the semi isolated forward converter topology. Load ports give fixed output voltage of 12 V DC with different current ratings for residential applications like 3 W, 5 W LED lights, 5 W compatible mobile charger and 25 W DC fan. The modes of operation and design considerations of converter are presented. The operation has been experimentally validated with average DC load of 50 W power rating prototype. The test results are satisfying IEC 61215 and IEC 60068-2-30: 2005, IEC 60068-2-14: 2009 standards under different environmental conditions.
