The improvement of TCP over HFC-based asymmetric networks

In this paper, we investigated the influence of asymmetric on TCP over HFC-based networks and related methods to improve the TCP performance. Then, a scheme called Modified Adaptive SACK Filtering is proposed to improve the TCP performance by adjusting the size of the block information in SACK option according to the real-time characteristics of network. Furthermore, based on the fact that the forward data is isotonic in HFC, Accelerated Lost Package Confirm is proposed to accelerate retransmission of lost packet. Based on the simulation results, the scheme make more significant performance improvement on TCP throughput than Reno and SACK Filtering.
