Investigation of Idle Running and Short-Circuit Performance Improvement for an Asynchronous Traction Motor

It is proposed the possibility to simulate the idle running and short-circuit performance of an asynchronous traction motor. These tests are important, as they allow for the calculation of the motor parameters. The comparisons between the simulated and the experimentally determined plots allow us to state that the occurring errors are in compliance with the actual limits imposed by the test standards. After-wards, there exists the possibility to simulate the stationary and dynamic modes, in order to determine the behavior of the motor while running. The simulations and experimental tests were carried out with a traction motor from a diesel electric locomotive.
