A professional lifetime with the Society for Modeling and Simulation International – a personal memoir

As this Special Issue celebrates, the Society for Modeling and Simulation International (SCS) was founded as the Simulation Council in 1952 and, for all but the first 12 years of its existence, SCS has been a major influence in the development of my own professional career. What follows is an attempt to show how my professional development has been bound up in the development of SCS. My hope is that readers developing careers as modeling and simulation (M&S) professionals will recognize the value of pursuing an active membership role in the Society. I hope also that it will add a little to the repository of information about the history of SCS. Along with others, I feel there is a great need to establish a comprehensive permanent historical record of SCS before too many of the important details are lost. I should add, however, that it is based on my personal recollections and I apologize in advance for any errors in dates or other details.
