Investigation of coals in modernized plastometric device

Samples of 40 different types of coal representative of the principal coal basins of the USSR and used to make up charges for coking plants were tested in a plastometric device used at the Zaporozhye Coking Plant. The data are recorded in tabular form, and indicate that the principal regularities in the distribution of the plastic-state zones can also be assigned to other coals using density measurements. Determination of additional parameters in the plastometric device describing the quality of the plastic coal-substance mass is an import factor in a more precise classification of coals within a technical group, and in a better selection of coal-mixture components. Using the information from the automated plastometric device, it is possible to more correctly select charge components under the conditions present in a raw coking base from different basins for the production of a high-quality coke.
