Analysis on soil arching effect of reducing-load of culvert under high-fill embankment

In this paper,through the principle of reducing-load of EPS board used on the high-fill embankment culverts,analysis soil arching effect mechanism.The results show: the existence of soil arching effect meet three conditions: when EPS board compressive deformation on top of the culvert is greater than soil compression deformation of the both sides,differential settlement-δ on the top plane of culvert,a certain height,the presence of arch foot of soil,at the same time,through playing the soil shear strength,soil redistribution of internal stress to both sides on the top plane of culvert,at the present,with unstable characteristics about soil arching effect.
