External Sources in the process of Open Innovation: Reinforcing and Restrictive Factors in Tech Startups

Apesar do numero crescente de pesquisas sobre inovacao aberta (open innovation), os estudos sobre esse modelo de inovacao nas startups ainda sao incipientes, especialmente, no Brasil. Com isso, este artigo objetiva descrever e analisar os desafios da inovacao aberta, em startups de base tecnologica, atraves dos fatores potencializadores e restritivos presentes na busca por fontes externas de conhecimento. A pesquisa qualitativa foi realizada atraves de metodo de multiplos casos com duas startups. A analise de conteudo foi composta por duas categorias centrais: i) Busca por Fontes Externas e ii) Motivacao e Antecedentes. Os resultados indicam que o principal fator potencializador foi a universidade atraves da estrutura fisica e suporte na busca por fontes de financiamento e competencias internas demandadas pelas startups. Por seu turno, os impedimentos legais e burocraticos de transferencia e negociacao com fontes externas, alem do receio do compartilhamento de conhecimentos e experiencias internas foram os principais fatores restritivos. Por fim, a pesquisa indica uma situacao que nao contempla plenamente o modelo teorico da inovacao aberta em decorrencia de especificidades das startups e de limitacoes estruturais, culturais e legais.
