Over the last decades changes in the national and international economy have required organizations to improve their competitive capacity in an ever more competitive market. The bearing of these changes on the macro and micro level have brought stakeholders and organizations together, rendering the management process even more complex. Organizations now rely on management tools to support this process and to improve their performance. This article discusses which formally defined management tools are being employed by large companies in the state of Santa Catarina, using the Bain & Company model as a reference, as it is a model used all over the world. The results show the managers’ level of satisfaction with the management tools in the companies that have been researched, as well as their expectations for the future use of tools that have not been implemented yet. When comparing the results of this study with those obtained by Bain & Company both in Brazil and in the rest of the world, differences were found in the use of these tools, which establishes a counterpoint to Bain & Company’s paradigm. Key words: management tools, use, satisfaction, large companies.
