Central Asia

This book is based on the concept that current thinking, which places Afghanistan in a core position for the creation of stability in Central Asia through resolution of its conflict, is essentially wrong. The authors postulate that, rather, there are three surrounding regional security complexes whose problems and rivalries need to be resolved to produce a solution for the situation in Afghanistan. They are particularly concerned that the roles of the ‘Great Powers’ (USA, Russia and China) in this area result in a competitive climate which makes it difficult to develop a viable resolution for the conflict in Afghanistan.
