Pharmacokinetics of insulin and glucose in diabetics during insulin infusion. I. Basal regimen

Conclusions1. Simulation of the work of the pancreas by means of an insulin doser leads to hypoinsulinemia in the hepatic circulation and hyperinsulinemia in the remainder of the vascular system, so that the blood sugar concentration cannot be normalized in diabetes.2. Deliberate creation of a normal insulin concentration by the infuser in any one compartment of the vascular system leads to above or below normal insulin concentrations in the other compartments of the vascular system and is accompanied by a raised or lowered blood sugar concentration.3. Impossibility of normalizing the blood sugar level by insulin administration by means of an infuser at the present time is due to the inappropriate topographical character of its connection to the blood flow.
