Stage evaluation of cell growth in yeast culture through image processing

This research evaluates the cell growth stages in a culture of Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast using image processing algorithm. This algorithm is able to detect intracellular patterns, cell size and other parameters which determines the growth stage of cells (young, mature, in division, old, dead cell) using image clustering methods. The images studied in the present work were captured using a regular laboratory microscope and a microscope color camera of 1.3 megapixels resolution. Laboratory analysis aiming to validate the algorithm results were performed for every sample.
