This paper describes the ideal of node dormancy based on area dividing. According to this ideal, the Ad hoc On Demand Distance Vector (AODV) is applied to wireless sensor network. Node's in wireless sensor network has limited of energy and can't be supplied. The existing routing protocol of Ad hoc can't be used on it directly. In view of the existing problem of AODV, we use the ideal of node dormancy based on area dividing. We called this improved AODV protocol IAODV protocol. By adding the ideal of area dividing and node dormancy into AODV, it can restrain much redundancy information produced by flooding broadcast, can largely save the limited energy of nodes, prolong the lifetime of the whole network. This paper discusses the routing algorithm and realization of IAODV protocol, and we also simulate it by using the NS-2.
