Aspiration and Tetracycline Sclerotherapy of Hydrocele

Experience in the treatment of 15 hydroceles with aspiration and sclerotherapy was reported. Five percent solution of pyrrolidinomethyl tetracycline was used as the sclerosant. In this series the overall success rate was 65% in the mean 7 months fol-lowup. A single treatment was successful in 33% of the hydroceles. Complications in-cluded: scrotal pain in 3 patients, lower abdominal pain in 1, scrotal induration in 3, ecchymosis of scrotal skin in 3, and persistent scrotal discomfort in 5. We suggested that treatment of hydrocele with aspiration and injection of tetracycline ming be an useful alterantive to surgery, especially in old, high risk patients. (J Urol R.O.C., 2:483-486, 1991)
