A Generic Filtering Technique Using Value Types in CORBA-based Applications

The performance of a distributed application strongly depends on the frequency of its distributed calls. In this paper we present a generic approach to improve the performance of CORBA-based applications by filtering the access to CORBA objects. We use value type objects to implement the filtering rules. As an example, we show how generic filtering can be used in the context of the publisher/subscriber design pattern and in a peer-to-peer environment. The paper concludes with the results of a performance analysis.
