ANALYSIS THE NEWBORNS HIV POSITIVE-MOTHERS THREE YEARS FROM THE REGIONAL HIV-AIDS CENTER IASI, ROMANIA (Ab-stract) Aim: With proper medication and regular monitoring, pregnant women with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) can give birth to a healthy child. With the implementation of programs to prevent vertical transmission, the number of HIV-positive newborns has decreased significantly. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the HIV status of newborns perina-tally exposed through the infection. Material and methods: We conduct a retrospective study on the HIV positive women registered at the “Sf. Parascheva” Infectious Disease Hospital from Iasi, which became mothers between 2017-2019. Results : During the three years mentioned period, 101 newborns from HIV positive mothers were included in the study, four being from untreated mothers. All the children received prophylactic antiretroviral com-pounds. At the end of the monitored period, two children had detectable viremia. Conclusions : Evaluation of HIV-positive mothers and prophylaxis of newborns during the evaluated period, which was conducted according to the protocol, lead to a low percentage of HIV-positive children.
