A Novel Approach to the Design and Development of 12/15 Radial Field C-Core Switched Reluctance Motor for Implementation in Electric Vehicle Application

This paper presents a novel 12/15 radial field C-core switched reluctance motor (SRM) design, which offers combined advantages of axial field and conventional radial field SRM. In addition, the in-wheel implementation of motor with removable rotor without disturbing stator is one of the unique features. It makes this design more beneficial for electrical vehicle application. This arrangement offers good torque with low excitation current. In this paper, step-by-step design procedure of the proposed radial field C-core SRM is discussed. Parameters are calculated using computer-aided design. These parameters are justified with finite-element analysis and prototype model results.
